RHINOS has set up a multidisciplinary team to fill the existing gap of a missing standard in railway sector, following a path similar to the one adopted for the aviation.
For this purpose the partnership will include researchers from Stanford University that is historically involved since the beginning into the GNSS research for the aviation and that plays a key role as a contributor in the cited ARAIM Technical Subgroup (including co-chairmanship).
With the contribution of Stanford University, the DLR and Notthingam University, the major European research centres on GNSS, RHINOS is in the best position to exploit the experience on the aviation sector and looking beyond the next innovations brought by the GNSS.
This unique competence is the crucial pillar to work with the rail expertise represented by Ansaldo STS and the University of Pardubice supported by SOGEI that is involved into local augmentation networks for public services.
The coordination of the partnership is assigned to RadioLabs, which – thanks to its mission of non-profit research centre, participated by Universities and industry – represents the perfect bridge between the two worlds. Further, RadioLabs will bring into the project its own experience in the field of high integrity GNSS based train localization algorithms and in the realization of accurate simulation tools for GNSS applications in railway environment.
It is also worth to mention the involvement of GCE (GNSS Centre of Excellence) as a third party, because of its excellent relationship with industrial and national partners and governmental institutions in the Czech Rep. Furthermore GCE has close relationships with the main Czech organizations with deep knowledge about railway legislation, current standards and technologies and can provide very experienced and professional insight and help for the project.
